Day 75 (1/19/10): Hops & Barely

Say what you want about my smoking and my drinking, but I have one thing usually going for me in the pro column. I’m pretty damn punctual, most of the time. Due to a lack of sleep and an excess of drinking, my head does, however, fail me on occasion. Which is why at 6pm I was running to a subway, and frantically/apologetically texting Christi that I was going to be late. Now I wasn’t entirely too broken up about the fact that this girl would be pissed that I was late, it was that at 6:30, the drink specials ended and prices doubled.

Not only this, but when I do arrive, Kelly has not secured prime location. She tells me she’s by the door, and I almost immediately want to completely blow her off, but I was late so I suppose it was my due payback. I grab us a pitcher, but part of me doesn’t even want to be there because I hate a crowded bar, and I hate waiting for drinks, hence the pitcher.  We talk and I’m staring mostly at the beer, and she more than likely assume I was staring at her chest.  I think we both failed each other’s tests. A damn guard comes up to me and stops me saying I am disturbing the peace, threatening public safety, performing on private ground and I am breaking the law by recording, so he threatens to throw me out if I dont pack up my stuff and leave…
I mean WTF???

First off we wernt disturbing anybody, infact people actually stopped and watched me and enjoyed it!
There were people sitting watching, they were smiling applauding and people were deliberatly moving out of the way to give me space, so whats the big deal?
-An elderly lady came up to me and said how much she enjoyed watching me and it made her wait in the station more pleasant!
Threatening public safety? I do have control and I am conscious about my surroundings, we were extremely careful and planed accordingly.
Threat my ass…

Performing on private grounds without a permit, what about those people who did that lame Michale Jackson flashmob in the Centralstation?
They didnt have a permit and they actually disturbed pretty much but sucking so much, threatened people by taking up so much space… Either way fuck it, I am going to call the Headoffice in the Centralstation and get a permit, or try atleast, I dont want this to ruin my movie…fuck this shit and fuck that rude guard right up his ass…

First of the new year...

As the first blog of the new year…I just want to say happy new year to you all and hope that hit brings you…property.

Okay, back to business.  It is odd to see the winter snow fall.  It looks so beautiful outside and you can get SO many beautiful photos, but it is so damn cold.  I personally don’t like shooting outside in the snow is because, believe it or not but it is hard on the camera.  With as much electronics that are in the camera today, it is unreal, and esp. for the battery of the camera, it just drains it.  Does anyone have anything that might be able to fix this?  I personally shoot with a Nikon D60 Gold Edition and I would just like to be able to shoot outside a bit during this time.

Now last night at about midnight, a gentleman from Topeka contacted me about him wanting to get a family photo taken as a gift of him, “Mom, brother, sister, nephew, and grandpa”. now I normally wouldn’t have a problem with this and wouldn’t charge a lot for this, but then when I went and asked him one simple question of how many outfits there would be (because I know for this kind of photograph there is usually only one outfit that they want to use, I just want to make sure) and this is the full email read (in the email I sent to him I asked him how many people where in his family and the above quote came from the reply as you will see)

“One set of outfits.  At most 5.  It would be my Mom, brother, sister, nephew, and grandpa.  I’d want a variety of shots.  Some shots of just my brother and grandpa, some of just my sister and nephew, some of everyone.”

Okay, the problems are as follows:

#1. Topeka is just about an hour away from me and for those of you who haven’t been paying attention to the weather in the Midwest, we’ve been pounded by snow.  I mean, since Christmas Eve there has been about two feet of snow and ice that has fallen and not melted, and for those of you who are not from the Midwest don’t know that most people from the Midwest, or Central Midwest rather, do not know how to drive in snow and ice.

#2. I really, really, really, really do not like Topeka.  It is a dirty town that the state would, in my mind, be much better off if it didn’t hold the capitol in it.

#3. The guy wants all reprint rights to the photographs, good for me but bad for him as that is going to jack up the price of the photographs.

#4. Sitting fees.  Shooting one shot of just the family is one thing, but if he wants him and his sister, him and his mom, him and his grandpa, him and his nephew, is mother and his sister, mother and grandpa, mother and nephew, grandpa and sister, grandpa and nephew and sister and nephew, and then grandfather, sister and brother, grandfather, mom and nephew, grandfather sister and nephew  (I don’t think I forgot any possible combo here but my brain is starting to hurt by thinking about about all of these damn combos) but that is a a lot, with at LEAST three shots per couple (and not saying that if they want to do something like a generation photo of Grandpa, Mom and Son or some crazy shit like that) and he did say up to five outfits! SO, as of right now, we are talking about at the MOST, under this situation, 65 photos, which is basically a small wedding package.

So…I am thinking that it looks like a small wedding package here, which is what I fear is what I’m going to have to go through and charge him…let me know your thoughts on that.

Anyways…besides that, I feel that today is going to be a huge year for me.
